A Sporting Healthy Cultural Developing Resourceful Community

Promoting sports, leisure, health, and cultural resources in Drimnagh so the community can enjoy a full, active, healthy, and meaningful life.

We are implementing the Dynamic Drimnagh 2030 Plan to proactively advocate for, support, and empower the Drimnagh community to influence matters affecting its wellbeing. This pillar focuses on Health, Well-being, Culture, and Leisure, emphasising the importance of providing the community with the essential resources needed to lead full, healthy, and meaningful lives.

Our plan includes initiatives such as establishing a Primary Health Care Campus, upgrading existing community and cultural facilities, and developing new ones. It also focuses on creating Civic and Sporting Arenas to support and expand the activities of all sporting groups in the area.

While prioritising physical health and well-being, we equally value the mental and cultural health of all community members. Expanding opportunities for leisure and cultural activities enhances mental well-being and enriches lives. We aspire to see a library, a cultural center, and vibrant local festivals flourish in Drimnagh, fostering a stronger and more connected community.

Although hospitals are located on the outskirts of the Drimnagh community, local healthcare services are in urgent need of improvement. The number of general practitioners serving the area has significantly declined, despite the community’s growth. There is a pressing need to modernize the physical infrastructure of primary healthcare to meet contemporary standards and adequately serve the community’s needs.

Local sporting organisations, often born from the passion of community activists and sports enthusiasts, are unsung heroes in fostering a sense of belonging and well-being. These groups, regardless of the sport or activity they promote, offer a crucial physical outlet for people of all ages. Their impact extends far beyond the playing field, contributing significantly to the overall health and cohesion of our communities.

It’s not just about the physical benefits of exercise; these organisations create a space for social interaction, skill development, and personal growth. They instill values like teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship, shaping the character of our youth and providing a positive outlet for their energy. Moreover, they offer a sense of identity and purpose, fostering a stronger connection to the community.

Despite their invaluable contributions, these organisations often face challenges in terms of resources and infrastructure. They rely heavily on the dedication of volunteers and the generosity of donors. To truly thrive and expand their reach, they need significant investment in infrastructure projects. This means providing them with adequate facilities, equipment, and resources to continue their vital work.

Supporting these local sporting organisations is an investment in the well-being of our communities. It’s about recognising their role in building healthier, happier, and more connected societies. It’s about empowering them to continue their mission of providing opportunities for everyone to participate, regardless of age or ability.

We must advocate for increased funding and support for these organizations. We must recognise their importance and work together to ensure their sustainability and growth. By investing in their infrastructure, we are investing in the future of our communities.

Let’s celebrate and champion these local sporting organisations. They are the heart and soul of our communities, and they deserve our unwavering support.
