Goldenbridge House 1716
Built for the Smith family. When the house and gardens were taken over by the Sisters of Mercy in 1856, the name was borrowed for another house.
Goldenbridge House built early 1700s, the Dublin seat of the Smith family of Dunlavin, Co. Wicklow. Its most famous former inhabitant described it: “…Golden Bridge House was a red brick mansion of the King William or early Queen Anne period.” In 1837, Major Garnet J. Wolseley was recorded as the resident.
In 1855, the house was sold to the religious order the Sisters of Mercy. They used the house as a reformatory for young women, and dropped the former name which was transferred to another new-built house, Rose Vale.
